When the world cracks open our hearts, we root into the cycles of the earth to heal

A wellspring of griefs floods our world–climate crisis, genocides, state violence, abuses splashed across the news. The macro background-and-sometimes-foreground to the micro, to the personal griefs that twine through our lives.

Feeling unmoored, unbalanced, untethered is understandable.
Feeling keyed up, hypervigilient, over-raw is understandable.

We know this isn’t sustainable. We know we need to step out of the loop, out of the systems that keep us running and rung out. We know we can bring our whole selves to the work, the imagination-creation of Better.

But we can’t do that when grief cloaks us, unaddressed and unanswered.

Thaw out and wake up with SpringSong: Blossoming Grief

Whether griefs are recent or lingering, grounding ourselves into the rhythms of the world around us is how we internalize and stay present with the grief.

Sitting with grief, rather than running from it.
Learning from grief, rather than denying it.
Acknowledging how grief has colored our worlds, rather than ignore the vibrancy of color now visible to us.

Something shifts in us, when we lean into the earth. Recognizing the reflected patterns between what’s out there and what’s tucked within.

How our bodies, our own personal little earths made of sweat and dirt and starstuff, respond to the drift of seasons, transgenerational knowledge of how to move with them layered into our cells. I’m being poetic and there’s science here too, each supporting the other because no system, no individual exists in isolation.

When we tease out the cerebral and make it known through our hands, in our bodies, boundaried by ritual, the felt-sense of grief can move through us.
When we entered into this understanding, ritualizing and honoring our interconnectedness, we discover the nourishment that can be drawn from the grief spring.

But where did SpringSong: Blossoming Grief come from and who am I to offer it?

My name is Ray and SpringSong is woven from the crossroads of many paths. Clinical herbalist, Kemetic funerary priest, diasporic Ukrainian, death midwife, ritual worker, ancestral venerator, animist–all threading together for a polyphonic approach reaching beyond the bubble of isolated humanity to reintegrate with the earth that cradles us. Death awareness, grief awareness, has shown me how it dwells within all cyclical times, drifting alongside all moments, even the unfurling of spring.

Spring thaws the land; spring can thaw our griefs.

When everything seems like it’s on fire, the earth shows us how to move through and even dance in the flames

The first installment of the SeasonSong Embodying Grief series, SpringSong: Blossoming Grief is a 3-month course that walks us through the unfolding of Spring.

Twice a month, each 90-minute session:

  • explores and builds on seasonal aspects as transformative practices
  • draws us gently into our bodies to be present with the work
  • creates a container for the mess of grief (and the burnout that can come with entrenched grief)
  • introduces us to plant Allies with whom we’ll build kinship
  • shares rituals that slow us down and give us space to catalyze/metabolize grief within a seasonal framework

The teachings offered up by your body and the earth alike will carry you not just through the spring of your grief, but into seasons to come.

Leaving you better resourced, more present, and more capable of not just envision a better world, but taking steps however small towards creating that world. Not alone, but with allies.
